Tube to Work Day cruised down the Boulder Creek on Friday, an event that had morning commuters in Boulder trading traditional vehicles and rush hour traffic for inflatable tubes and chilly creek waters for what organizers call “the world’s greatest traffic jam.”

When tubers hit the waters around 8 a.m., the forecast in Boulder recorded a chilly 64 degrees. Recent rains helped the creek increase its flow to 117 cubic feet per second (cfs) on Friday, whereas on Wednesday, it was flowing at a low 54.1 cfs, according to U.S. Geological Survey gauge. Visit Boulder says the ideal range for tubing is between 40 to 200 cfs.
Tube to Work Day, which began in 2008, attracts hundreds of participants, and a portion of its registration funds benefit the nonprofit Boulder Bridge House.

The morning started with a 7:15 a.m. party at Eben G. Fine Park and included a stilt-walker parade to the creek, where participants entered in waves, wearing all of the required safety equipment, including business attire and laptops.
