Safeway plans to permanently close its store at 7561 W. 80th Ave. in Arvada by Nov. 14.
“With our focus on growth, we continuously evaluate the performance of our stores, and this tough decision was made after careful deliberation,” said Heather Halpape, director of communications and public affairs for Safeway’s Mountain West Division, in an email to The Post.
“Every effort will be made to transfer associates to one of our other Safeway stores throughout the Denver Metro area. While closing this location was not an easy decision, we remain committed to growing our business and reinvesting resources into existing Safeway stores across Colorado.”
Safeway operates more than 900 stores in the U.S., including 92 stores in Colorado, according to the grocer’s website. The Arvada store is the chain’s only location in the city.
Halpape said no other store closures are planned.
The nearest grocery store is a King Soopers at 8031 Wadsworth Blvd., across the street from the Safeway. Natural Grocers, Sprouts Farmers Market and Target are all less than a five-minute drive south of the closing store, according to Google Maps.
Last year, Safeway closed more than 10 stores across Colorado, including locations in Lakewood, Englewood, Northglenn, Denver, Aurora, Fort Collins, Loveland, Colorado Springs, La Junta and Lamar.
