The Denver Police Department responded shortly after 12:30 a.m. Sunday to a two-vehicle crash on southbound I-25 near West Colfax Avenue, on the edge of the city’s Lincoln Park and Auraria neighborhoods.

One man died at the scene of the crash, and paramedics took four other unidentified adults to the hospital, a spokesperson for the police department said.

Police said the man who died tried to pass another driver on southbound I-25 and collided with the front of the second vehicle, causing both cars to roll. The man was thrown from the car and died from his injuries. He will be identified by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.

Three people in the passing vehicle were injured and one person in the second car was injured, police said.

Police said the crash shut down part of the highway south of Colfax and two nearby on-ramps. All closures had been lifted by 6:13 a.m. Sunday, the spokesperson said.

Roughly an hour after the first crash, at 1:21 a.m., police responded to a second fatal crash near South Sheridan Boulevard and West Evans Avenue in the Harvey Park neighborhood.

A southbound driver hit a pedestrian crossing Sheridan mid-block, outside of the crosswalk, police said. The pedestrian died at the scene of the crash and will be identified by the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner.

Sheridan was temporarily closed in both directions at Evans and reopened shortly before 6:30 a.m., police said. As of Sunday evening, no arrests had been made and the crash remained under investigation.
