Danny Newman wants the clock tower along 16th Street to be a little more like the Empire State Building.

The local tech entrepreneur and owner of My Brother’s Bar is behind a fundraising effort to light up the Daniels & Fisher Tower at 16th and Arapahoe.
Passersby can visit Newman’s website and pay $10 to control the lights for five minutes or $200 to run the tower from dusk to dawn. You can choose from an array of colors or animations that light up the sky.
“Years ago, I had seen some friends doing it on the Empire State Building in New York,” Newman recalled. “And I was like, ‘Oh, that is awesome.’ And we finally got the series of technologies needed to do it.”

Outside of maintenance costs, proceeds go to Historic Denver, the local preservation nonprofit. Newman is on the organization’s board.
The building’s lights were upgraded last year, going from having to be manually changed to being able to be changed “from anywhere in the world,” Newman said.
