Fire shuts down southbound Interstate 25 near Colorado Springs

Southbound Interstate 25 was closed Monday afternoon north of Colorado Springs for “fire activity,” according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

As of 1:25 p.m., southbound I-25 remained closed between Exit 156 for Northgate Boulevard and Exit 158 for Baptist Road for the fire and low visibility, according to state transportation officials.

CDOT cameras in the area of the closure showed heavy smoke and lines of cars.

It’s unknown what sparked the fire and when the highway is expected to reopen.
