An e-bike cyclist who died last week after a crash in the Elyria Swansea neighborhood was allegedly fleeing police, Denver police said Sunday.
The cyclist crashed with a vehicle near Steele Street and Eastbound Interstate 70 just before 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
The incident happened when police officers tried to stop the cyclist “for hazardous traffic violations when the bicyclist rode on to the highway in an apparent attempt to elude officers who were following him,” Officer Siena Riley said in an email.
The cyclist, who has not been identified, was taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead, according to the Denver Police Department.
The crash is under an internal investigation.
