Prosecutors with the Adams County District Attorney’s Office will not file charges against an 18-year-old arrested on suspicion of fatally shooting a 33-year-old man in Brighton on Sunday, the agency officials said this week.
Jeness Torres was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder after Brighton police responded to a shooting in the 3100 block of Eagle Boulevard at around 12:30 a.m. and found a man who had been shot. His name will be released by the Adams Count Coroner’s Office.
“After a thorough examination of the evidence, our office determined that the facts do not support the filing of criminal charges, as we cannot disprove self-defense or defense of others in this incident,” the district attorney’s office said in a news release.
The DA’s office did not elaborate on why self-defense may have been a factor in the shooting and could not immediately be reached for comment.
