Arapahoe Basin ski area is marking a milestone birthday this winter and to celebrate, it’s giving skiers the gift of cheap lift tickets.

On Wednesdays during the peak of ski season, daily lift tickets will cost just $80 to honor the ski area’s 80th anniversary. Peak season is considered late-December through April, and during off-season months like November and May, A-Basin slashes the midweek lift ticket price to $50.
Additionally, lift tickets will cost $80 on its anniversary weekend, Saturday, Dec. 5 and Sunday, Dec. 6. As an extra perk, anyone who was born in 1946, and is therefore 80 years old, gets to ski for free every Wednesday all season long.
Lift ticket prices vary widely depending on the day of the week and demand during the season, but visitors will often pay $100 or more for a single day at A-Basin if they don’t have an Ikon Pass, making the deal just that.
The discounted rate isn’t limited to a specific number of buyers, confirmed spokesperson Shayna Silverman, so anyone who wants to shred on hump day can lock in the $80 price. The only exception is Wednesday, Dec. 30, which will not be discounted for holiday crowds, Silverman said.

A-Basin details plans for more parking, snowmaking and a highway bridge
Located in Summit County, A-Basin opened in December 1946 with a single rope tow from mid-mountain to the summit. Though the ski area has grown significantly over the last eight decades, it remains famous for its elevation. The base of the ski area sits at 10,800 feet, and hike-to skiing is available up to nearly 13,000 feet.
Founder and 10th Mountain veteran Larry Jump opened A-Basin with help from the late Dick Durrance, a 1936 Olympic ski racer, and Sandy Schauffler, another former racer. A-Basin was Summit County’s only ski area until December of 1961, when Breckenridge opened under the name Peak 8.
On A-Basin’s birthday weekend, Dec. 5-6, there will be special events such as live music and a Moonlight Dinner at Black Mountain Lodge that requires attendees to snowshoe or skin up the mountain to make their reservation. Wearing vintage ski gear is also highly encouraged during the festivities.
Coincidentally, A-Basin shares its anniversary year with Aspen Snowmass, which is also offering $80 lift tickets the weekend of Dec. 12-13 to celebrate its milestone anniversary.
