The Boulder County Coroner’s Office identified 33-year-old Ryan Kelly as the man who died in a fall from the Second Flatiron outside of Boulder on Thursday.

About 11:30 a.m., the Boulder County Communications Center received a crash detection alert from an Apple device that originated from Chautauqua Park, according to a Boulder County Sheriff’s Office news release. First responders talked with hikers and climbers nearby, and none had seen or heard anything unusual. No other calls were received from the area.
An off-duty member of the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group who was climbing in the area later found Kelly in a gully about halfway up the Second Flatiron, according to the release. Officials believe Kelly may have been solo scrambling. No rope or climbing equipment was found in the area.

The Rocky Mountain Rescue Group conducted a technical extrication to retrieve the man.
The Boulder County Coroner’s Office will determine the cause and manner of death.
