One person was killed and five were hospitalized after a truck driver crashed into a busy Fort Collins sidewalk during the annual Tour de Fat parade and festival in northern Colorado, police officials said.

The crash happened in the 100 block of West Mountain Avenue at 11:44 a.m. near Old Town when a Chevrolet pickup reversed out of a parking spot, hit another vehicle and drove onto the sidewalk, hitting five pedestrians and a tree before stopping, Fort Collins Police Services said in a news release.
The driver and five pedestrians were taken to a hospital, where one pedestrian was pronounced dead, police officials said. The name of the deceased will be realized by the Larimer County coroner’s office.
Detectives are investigating the crash, including if impairment was a factor, police said. It does not appear any of the pedestrians were targeted.

The annual “wacky and weird,” bike-forward event in Fort Collins draws tens of thousands of costumed participants who, after parading through the city on foot and bicycle, gather at New Belgium Brewery for live music, food, beer and entertainment. Tour de Fat raises money for local bike nonprofits.
