Southbound Diagonal Highway reopened after an SUV crashed into an 85-year-old cyclist and killed him Monday morning south of Longmont.
The crash happened around 7:58 a.m. on the Diagonal near North 83rd Street, according to Trooper Hunter Mathews. The cyclist, a Longmont man, was pronounced dead on the scene.
The driver of the SUV involved in the crash, a 33-year-old Longmont woman, wasn’t injured, Mathews wrote in an email. There were no passengers in the SUV, he wrote.
All lanes of the southbound Diagonal Highway, also signed in that area as Colorado 119, were reopened to traffic according to an alert around 11:30 a.m. on COtrip, the Colorado Department of Transportation’s traffic mapping website.

The highway had been blocked to southbound travelers from Fordham Street to the Niwot area earlier Monday while troopers first responded, according to an earlier alert.
Information about where the cyclist was riding when he was hit was not yet known, according to Mathews.
