Coloradans buzzing with anticipation for Boulder’s first time hosting the Sundance Film Festival can get a taste of what’s in store at an upcoming event at the University of Denver featuring artists, writers, directors and producers from festivals past.
“Mostly True Stories From the Sundance Film Festival” will explore the festival’s story through the perspective of artists who have influenced and been influenced by the event, the Sundance Institute announced Thursday.
The event will feature filmmaker and Sundance Institute board member Amy Redford (“The Guitar,” “What Comes Around”); writer/director Rian Johnson (“Knives Out,” “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” and “Brick”); writer/director Dee Rees (“Mudbound,” “Pariah”); producer Christine Vachon (“Past Lives,” “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”); and others.
“The history of the Sundance Film Festival is really the history of the artists who’ve participated over the decades, the films they’ve debuted, the risks they’ve taken and the experiences they’ve shared with audiences,” festival Director Eugene Hernandez said in a statement.
The Sept. 8 event at DU’s Newman Center for the Performing Arts will highlight “rarely heard” stories from past festivals, Hernandez added. Tickets start at $29 for adults and $15 for students and are available online.
Colorado’s debut of the Sundance Film Festival is set for Jan. 21 to Jan. 31 and is expected to bring Hollywood icons, along with tens of thousands of attendees, to the foot of the Flatirons. More information about festival passes and tickets will be released in September.
