More than 500 flights at Denver International Airport have been delayed as of late Monday afternoon, as rain and hail began to fall around the Denver metro area.

Two flights have also been fully canceled at DIA and 508 more have been delayed, according to the flight tracking website Flight Aware. More than half of the delayed flights were headed for Denver, and 244 more were departing the city.

The disruptions come as the National Weather Service projected that the metro area, up to Fort Collins and east across the plains, could face severe thunderstorms and hail as large as 3.5 inches. High winds and tornadoes are also possible. The weather was expected to roll in after 2 p.m. and intensify as it moved east toward Kansas.
