Denver is shaking and stirring up some seriously good cocktails \u2014 and catching national attention along the way.<\/p>\n

The 20th annual Spirited Awards, part of the esteemed Tales of the Cocktail conference in New Orleans, announced its roster of top 10 honorees this week, which are essentially the semifinalists in the national competition categories. The awards, hosted by the nonprofit Tales of the Cocktail Foundation, \u201ccelebrate excellence across the global bar and cocktail industry,\u201d according to the organization.<\/p>\n

While many of the honorees hailed from cocktail powerhouse cities such as New York, Los Angeles and New Orleans, Denver made an impressive showing in the \u201cbest new U.S. cocktail bar\u201d category. Out of 10 semifinalists, three came from the Mile High City.<\/p>\n

Those include The Peach Crease Club, a RiNo concept from local cocktail power-couple Alex Jump and Stuart Jensen; Rougarou, a new bar in Five Points from the team behind the esteemed beverage haunt Yacht Club; and Semiprecious, a self-described \u201cneighborhood bar\u201d which came to Denver by way of Los Angeles, where ownership operates two other cocktail joints.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat\u2019s truly special about the Spirited Awards is that it\u2019s voted on by peers in the industry,\u201d Jump said in an emailed statement. \u201cWith three of the 10 Best U.S. Cocktail Bars in Denver, that says a lot not only about The Peach Crease Club, but also about our city\u2019s thriving cocktail scene as a whole.\u201d<\/p>\n

Lady Jane, a cocktail staple of the Highland neighborhood since 2018, and Yacht Club were also nominated in the \u201cbest U.S. bar team\u201d category. Both places have been recognized for national awards recently. Lady Jane was named an \u201coutstanding bar\u201d semifinalist for this year\u2019s James Beard Awards, while Yacht Club won the title of Best U.S. Cocktail Bar at the 2024 Spirited Awards.<\/p>\n

Nikolas Sparks, general manager of Semiprecious, contends that Denver deserves to be recognized among the ranks of other highly-regarded cocktail scenes across the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cThough Semiprecious has only been here for a year, this type of recognition for the Denver bar scene has been a long time coming,\u201d Sparks said in an emailed statement. \u201cThe community here has been nothing but welcoming and supportive towards us since opening, and we\u2019re honored to be recognized alongside so many of our local friends that are operating at such a high level.\u201d<\/p>\n
