Southbound Interstate 25 was closed early Wednesday morning in Douglas County after a wrong-way driver crashed into oncoming traffic, according to the Colorado State Patrol.<\/p>\n

State patrol troopers responded to the crash on southbound I-25 in Castle Rock, near Plum Creek Parkway, at 5:12 a.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from the agency.<\/p>\n

When troopers arrived, they discovered a Chevrolet pickup truck had crashed head-on into a silver Toyota sedan, state patrol officials said in the release. The pickup truck driver, who has not been publicly identified, was headed north on the southbound highway when the crash happened.<\/p>\n

Paramedics took the Chevrolet driver to the hospital with unknown injuries, according to the release. The Toyota driver was evaluated on scene but declined to be taken to the hospital, state patrol officials said.<\/p>\n

Southbound I-25 was closed for nearly two hours between Exit 182 for Wilcox Street and Exit 181 for Plum Creek Parkway near Castle Rock, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. A detour was in place for drivers, but the crash was estimated to be causing 40-minute delays in the area until the highway reopened just before 7 a.m. Wednesday.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unknown if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.<\/p>\n
