One person was killed in a double shooting in Thornton early Friday morning, closing a section of Colorado Boulevard and leading to subsequent crash between a Regional Transportation District train and a police truck, according to the police department.<\/p>\n

A 911 caller reported at 4:43 a.m. that a vehicle had crashed into a pole along Colorado Boulevard between E. 100th Avenue and Thornton Parkway. Officers arrived to find two people who had been shot inside the crashed vehicle.<\/p>\n

A male died at the scene and a female was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police spokeswoman Kylynn McTague said. She did not know the victims\u2019 ages.<\/p>\n

Investigators closed that stretch of road and expect it to remain closed into the afternoon, McTague said. Investigators are working to determine where the shooting occurred, she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have multiple detectives out here right now,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

During the response to the shooting, a Thornton police officer left a police vehicle on RTD train tracks for the N Line, and an RTD train hit the empty police vehicle at 6:34 a.m., according to Colorado State Patrol, which is investigating the crash. The N Line crosses E. 100th Avenue at Colorado Boulevard.<\/p>\n

A photo from Denver Post news partner Denver7 on Friday showed a white pickup truck branded \u201cPolice\u201d with its bed partially crushed against an RTD train at the crossing. The truck\u2019s police lights were activated before the crash, Trooper Sherri Mendez said in a statement.<\/p>\n

No one was injured in the collision either on the train or at the crime scene, Mendez said. The officer who left the truck on the tracks had just arrived at the crime scene, she said in the statement.<\/p>\n

Passengers on the train disembarked and were transferred to RTD buses, Mendez said in a statement. The RTD train received \u201cminor damage,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

RTD said in an alert at 6:45 a.m. that shuttle buses were replacing the N Line because of an accident. A spokeswoman for the agency did not immediately return a request for more information.<\/p>\n
