Two weeks after\u00a0having five of its Flock Safety cameras vandalized, the Summit County Sheriff\u2019s Office confirmed four more were cut down within the last week.<\/p>\n

The Sheriff\u2019s Office has 30 total Flock cameras, which are automatic license plate readers, around the county. Sgt. Mike Schilling said earlier this month that four of the cameras were cut down and one was turned away from the road the week of Aug. 6. He confirmed Aug. 20 that two more were cut down Aug. 15 and another two were cut down Aug. 18.<\/p>\n

Schilling wrote that all of the cases are under investigation since vandalizing the cameras is \u201cvery much illegal.\u201d Whoever cut down the cameras could face felony charges, according to statements from Summit County Sheriff\u2019s Office in a prior Summit Daily article. The cameras cut down Aug. 6 included ones along Colorado Highway 9 between Frisco and Breckenridge and ones on Barton Road near Breckenridge. The cameras cut down Aug. 15 and Aug. 18 include ones on Ryan Gulch Road near Wildernest and on Cove Boulevard at the entrance to Summit Cove.<\/p>\n

Flock cameras have drawn criticism nationally and locally due to privacy concerns, and cutting them down has become a trend promoted on social media. A petition asking Summit County elected officials to re-evaluate contracts with Flock Safety has garnered over 740 signatures, and Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons will attend a community forum on the cameras Sept. 10.
