Golden police fatally shot a man who opened fire on officers, wounding one, in a confrontation at a gas station on West Colfax Avenue early Saturday, city officials said.<\/p>\n

Golden police officers responded to the Circle K at 17691 W. Colfax Ave. at 2:30 a.m. after someone reported a man with a handgun, city officials said on social media.<\/p>\n

The man fired at officers, hitting one, and officers returned fire, hitting and killing the man, city officials said. The officer who was shot was taken to a hospital with wounds that were not believed to be life-threatening.<\/p>\n

A Jefferson County critical incident response team is investigating, Golden officials said. People should avoid the area because of the ongoing \u00a0investigation.<\/p>\n
