{"id":3416,"date":"2026-08-04T21:05:30","date_gmt":"2026-08-04T21:05:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/coloradospringsmoverss.com\/?p=3416"},"modified":"2026-08-04T21:05:30","modified_gmt":"2026-08-04T21:05:30","slug":"chipotle-pulls-jalapenos-from-some-restaurants-as-health-officials-investigate-salmonella-outbreak","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/coloradospringsmoverss.com\/?p=3416","title":{"rendered":"Chipotle pulls jalape\u00f1os from some restaurants as health officials investigate salmonella outbreak"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div><strong>Getting your Trinity Audio player ready&#8230;<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>By WYATTE GRANTHAM-PHILIPS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CHICAGO (AP) \u2014 Chipotle Mexican Grill said Tuesday that it had removed jalape\u00f1os from some of its restaurants after determining the peppers could potentially be tied to a\u00a0salmonella\u00a0outbreak public health officials are investigating.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/coloradospringsmoverss.com\/?p=3414\">Fired judge says Colorado\u2019s immigration courts focus on rapid deportations, not due process<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In a brief statement, Chipotle maintained that the \u201chealth and safety of our guests and employees is our highest priority\u201d \u2014 and that it had pulled the jalape\u00f1os out of an abundance of caution and \u201creplaced them with product from different growers\u201d in all locations where a previous common lot had been distributed.<\/p>\n<p>The company did not specify where the initial peppers came from but noted that the jalape\u00f1os in question were sent across multiple states to several retailers.<\/p>\n<p>The Minnesota Department of Health on Tuesday confirmed that it was investigating a salmonella outbreak tied to several Mexican-style, quick-service restaurants \u2014 with jalape\u00f1os as the suspected source. Officials identified 110 cases in the state. Chipotle made up the majority of those where they were able to reach impacted consumers for an interview \u2014 who ate at the chain between mid-June and mid-July \u2014 but not all.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBased on all the evidence so far, the food that made people sick was served at other restaurants as well,\u201d Carlota Medus, senior epidemiologist supervisor in the MDH\u2019s Health Foodborne Diseases Unit, said in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/coloradospringsmoverss.com\/?p=3412\">LA County fire officials say electrical tower sparked deadly Eaton fire<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Medus said Chipotle had been cooperative over the course of the investigation \u2014 and that given the measures the company put in place, his department was not concerned about the chain at this time. Still, he said it was \u201ctoo soon for us to know if the outbreak is ongoing\u201d and that it\u2019s possible contaminated food is being served elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>MDH noted that other states are contributing to the investigation, without elaborating further. On the federal level, the\u00a0Food and Drug Administration\u00a0is conducting the traceback probe \u2014 covering but not limited to jalape\u00f1os.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The FDA on Tuesday confirmed it initiated its traceback investigation \u201cof multiple ingredients\u201d on July 22, in response to a cluster of salmonella illnesses identified by both state officials and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In a statement, the agency said it appreciated Chipotle\u2019s cooperation and that it would \u201cprovide additional information if and when there is an actionable public health update.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The CDC did not respond a request for further comments Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>Symptoms of salmonella poisoning include diarrhea, fever, severe vomiting, dehydration and stomach cramps. Most people who get sick recover within a week.
