PRICE and ALANNA DURKIN RICHER<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 President\u00a0Donald Trump\u00a0said Thursday he may pull\u00a0acting Attorney General Todd Blanche\u2019s nomination\u00a0for the full-time post to avoid making concessions to Senate Republicans demanding limits to a sweeping tax audit immunity deal benefiting the president and members of his family that Trump negotiated with his own Department of Justice.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/coloradospringsmoverss.com\/?p=3218\">Montana man hikes out of the mountains to get help after he was impaled by a trekking pole<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Trump doubled down on choosing his former personal lawyer as the nation\u2019s top lawman, calling him \u201ca STAR\u201d and saying he will keep him in the role as acting attorney general until Republican Sens. John Cornyn of Texas and Thom Tillis of North Carolina leave office.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have no objection to temporarily withdrawing Todd\u2019s name, if they do not do the right thing, and putting him back after Cornyn and Tillis are out of office,\u201d Trump posted on his social media site.<\/p>\n<p>Cornyn and Tillis, who both leave office next year, have said they won\u2019t back Blanche\u2019s nomination without additional assurances spelling an end to\u00a0a proposed $1.8 billion \u201cAnti-Weaponization Fund\u201d\u00a0created to resolve\u00a0Trump\u2019s lawsuit\u00a0against the Internal Revenue Service over the leak of his tax returns. The president\u2019s not winning on this issue. It is killing some of our candidates because they can\u2019t explain it. And now, it looks like they weren\u2019t being honest when they said it was inoperative.\u201d<\/p> <div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Senate Judiciary Committee was forced to scrap a planned vote for Thursday to advance Blanche\u2019s nomination after the Justice Department and the Republican senators failed to reach a resolution despite hours of negotiations. With all Democratic senators opposed, just one Republican holdout on the committee could sink Blanche\u2019s prospects for confirmation.<\/p><p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/coloradospringsmoverss.com\/?p=3213\">150 things that make Colorado quintessentially cool<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know whether they think they can wait us out or we\u2019ll cave, but I assure you we won\u2019t,\u201d Cornyn said Thursday of the Trump administration. In a social media post responding to Trump\u2019s suggestion that he may pull Blanche\u2019s nomination, Cornyn wrote that the president is \u201cmistaken if he believes concerns about the provisions in his tax lawsuit settlement are limited to me and Senator Tillis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Through it would be politically embarrassing for the Trump administration, pulling Blanche\u2019s nomination would likely have little practical impact on the management of the Justice Department.<\/p>\n<p>Blanche can still lead the department as either acting attorney general or deputy attorney general, the No. 2 post he was confirmed to last year.
