{"id":2846,"date":"2026-07-21T21:03:09","date_gmt":"2026-07-21T21:03:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/coloradospringsmoverss.com\/?p=2846"},"modified":"2026-07-21T21:03:09","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T21:03:09","slug":"adventhealth-to-take-over-intermountain-hospitals-in-wheat-ridge-brighton-and-lafayette","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/coloradospringsmoverss.com\/?p=2846","title":{"rendered":"AdventHealth to take over Intermountain hospitals in Wheat Ridge, Brighton and Lafayette"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div><strong>Getting your Trinity Audio player ready&#8230;<\/strong><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>AdventHealth will take over three Denver-area hospitals owned by Intermountain Health, along with their associated clinics, free-standing emergency rooms and urgent care centers.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/coloradospringsmoverss.com\/?p=2844\">\u2018The world\u2019s sanitarium\u2019: How Colorado\u2019s history is tied to tuberculosis<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The two health systems issued a new release Tuesday morning describing a \u201cjoint venture,\u201d but said AdventHealth would be in charge of daily operations for Lutheran Hospital in Wheat Ridge, Platte Valley Hospital in Brighton and Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette.<\/p>\n<p>A version of the news release posted on Intermountain\u2019s website said it is also exploring options for Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver, including \u201cpotential partnerships.\u201d It didn\u2019t mention any plans for St. Mary\u2019s Regional Hospital in Grand Junction, which is Intermountain\u2019s only other hospital in Colorado.<\/p>\n<p>Intermountain is based in Salt Lake City and all of its other 29 hospitals are in Utah.<\/p>\n<p>Florida-based AdventHealth has five hospitals in metro Denver, including AdventHealth Avista in Louisville, AdventHealth Castle Rock, AdventHealth Littleton, AdventHealth Parker\u00a0and AdventHealth Porter in Denver, along with dozens of medical practices and offsite emergency and urgent care centers.<\/p>\n<p>The joint news release also noted that the \u201ctransaction\u201d would close in early 2027, assuming regulators approve. States and the U.S. Department of Justice can intervene in sales and mergers if they believe a deal would reduce competition in a health care market.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives for Intermountain declined to clarify what role, if any, the system would have in the joint venture. AdventHealth said the agreement isn\u2019t a sale, but declined to give details about how the venture would work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPartnering with Intermountain Health represents an opportunity to build on our shared commitment to deliver high-quality, compassionate care,\u201d David Banks, president and CEO of AdventHealth, said in a news release.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Rob Allen, president and CEO of Intermountain Health, said in a news release that AdventHealth shares a focus on helping people live their healthiest lives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are excited about the prospect of a joint venture that would expand access to high-quality care and create a more connected experience for patients and care teams across the greater Denver area,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Read more <a href=\"https:\/\/coloradospringsmoverss.com\/?p=2842\">Watch live: Hegseth is facing questions from senators over funding for the Iran war<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Two of the hospitals involved in the venture \u2014 Lutheran and Platte Valley \u2014 appeared on a list of financially vulnerable hospitals compiled by the union National Nurses United earlier this summer.\u00a0Lutheran relocated to a new $680 million facility less than two years ago, however, which makes it difficult to tell whether the hospital truly has a pattern of losing money based on publicly available data.<\/p>\n<p>Kaiser Permanente Colorado will end its partnership with Intermountain this year, though it relocated its employed doctors to work in other hospitals in 2025.<\/p>\n<div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Kaiser runs an insurance plan and medical facilities for about 500,000 members statewide, and said it was expanding partnerships with CommonSpirit Health and HCA HealthOne to offer more choices at lower costs.<\/p>\n<p>UCHealth announced a similarly vague joint venture with Estes Park Health last year. Visitors looking up the facility online now see it listed as UCHealth Estes Valley Medical Center, with no obvious signs of a status that differs from other hospitals the system owns.<\/p>\n<p>Allan Baumgarten, a consultant who studies hospital markets, said he knew of at least two cases in Michigan in which a larger health system absorbed a smaller one, but called them a \u201cjoint venture\u201d or a \u201csubstitution of control.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To the public, however, they looked like straightforward sales, with the smaller brands disappearing, he said.<\/p>\n<p>Baumgarten said he wasn\u2019t sure why health systems might use that terminology, but it could be to avoid legal challenges.
