U.S. Sen. John Hickenlooper won Tuesday night\u2019s Democratic primary over challenger state Sen. Julie Gonzales.<\/p>\n

The Associated Press called the race at 7:36 p.m. for Hickenlooper, who had 57% of the votes with nearly 78% of the votes counted. That margin continued to hold at 9:30 p.m. with 84% of the votes counted.<\/p>\n

\u201cDemocrats are united,\u201d Hickenlooper told supporters gathered in Denver at Steuben\u2019s. \u201cWe are going to take back the U.S. Senate, we are going to take back the House. We are going to stop President Trump in his tracks.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hickenlooper, a pro-business centrist, pivoted to the left, at least in his campaign messaging, highlighting his work to expand healthcare access, boost housing affordability, cut environmental emissions and overhaul ICE.<\/p>\n
