1 dead, 2 injured in suspected DUI crash that shut down U.S. 85 in Commerce City

One person died and two others were injured in a five-car crash that shut down U.S. 85 in Commerce City early Wednesday morning, police said.

As of 8:40 a.m., U.S. 85 had reopened in both directions between Longs Peak Drive in Commerce City and East 124th Avenue in Brighton, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. The highway was closed for several hours during the crash cleanup and investigation.

Paramedics took two people to the hospital with unspecified injuries, including the at-fault driver, according to the Commerce City Police Department. The person killed in the crash will be identified by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing, police said.
