A motorcycle rider was killed in a three-vehicle crash that closed U.S. 285 near Fairplay on Friday afternoon, the Colorado State Patrol said.
U.S. 285 was still closed in both directions about 20 miles north of FairPlay, between miles 203 and 210, as of 7:20 p.m., according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Troopers responded to the crash at 2:44 p.m. near Park County Road 62 and found that a woman riding a motorcycle northbound on the highway tried to pass a Toyota RAV4 on the left when she crashed into an oncoming Lexus RX and then the RAV4.

The woman died at the scene, the state patrol said. Her name will be released by the Park County Coroner’s Office. CSP’s vehicular crimes unit is investigating the crash and has not determined a cause.
The Lexus and Toyota drivers were not injured, agency officials said. It’s not clear when the highway will reopen and people should take alternate routes.
