Police evacuated Aspen-Pitkin County Airport on Tuesday afternoon after several staff members received an “email threat regarding airport property,” airport officials said.

The email came in at around 1:30 p.m. and prompted airport staff and Pitkin County, Aspen and Snowmass Village police agencies to evacuate everyone from the premises, airport officials said in a news release.
Law enforcement crews then searched the airport before allowing passengers to return to the terminal at around 4 p.m.
“Law enforcement conducted a thorough search of the airport, including its buildings and facilities, and determined there was no identified risk to the public,” airport spokesperson Kelsey Petersen said.
Airport officials are not releasing additional information about the incident because there is an ongoing investigation, Petersen said.
A United Airlines flight from Denver was diverted to Grand Junction because of the closure, according to FlightAware.
