The watchful eyes of a carnivorous cat stared down from a tree in Westminster on Tuesday, prompting city officials to shut down a block around the animal.

Eaton Street was closed between 112th Avenue and 113th Avenue after a mountain lion was spotted lounging in a tree, the Westminster Police Department announced on social media shortly before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. The block appears to be in a residential area west of Sheridan Boulevard.
Residents are asked to avoid the area and the mountain lion, police said. Neighbors have been notified and officers are on scene, according to the department.

An estimated 3,800 to 4,400 mountain lions live in Colorado, according to Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Most of the animals live in the foothills or in canyon and mesa areas, agency officials said.
