Interstate 76 reopened in northeast Colorado on Tuesday morning after a rollover crash involving a semitrailer hauling cattle closed the highway for more than six hours, state transportation officials said.

The semitrailer was driving west on I-76 at about 2:58 a.m. Tuesday when it entered the highway median, rolled and spilled its cargo, according to a news release from the Colorado State Patrol. Three other semitrailers and one car struck cattle that were spilled in the crash.
Of the 48 cattle originally in the semitrailer, 10 were found dead, 29 survived and nine remain missing, state patrol officials said in the release.
Paramedics took the driver of the cattle hauler to the hospital, but information on the extent of the driver’s injuries was not available.

As of 9:30 a.m., I-76 had reopened in both directions between Hillrose and Merino, roughly 11 miles east of Brush, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Two related closures on either side of the crash — westbound I-76 between Merino and Colorado 63 and eastbound I-76 between U.S. 6 and Hillrose — had also lifted, state transportation officials said.
Additional information about the cause of the crash was not immediately available on Tuesday.
