A wildfire burning a few miles north of Lyons in Larimer County remained small Monday as firefighting crews were able to get 20% containment on the blaze.

The Burnett Gulch fire was estimated to be 2.8 acres as of late Monday afternoon, according to a U.S. Forest Service post on X. That was down from an estimate of 3.4 acres earlier in the day.
The fire prompted emergency officials to ask residents in the area to voluntarily evacuate their homes. Fire officials had not lifted that precaution as of Monday afternoon.
Air resources are still aiding firefighters on the ground and the Forest Service said crews were making “progress on a handline around the fire.”

Voluntary evacuations are in place for residents living along Lonestar Road and Stagecoach Trail in Larimer County. Officials are advising people to gather essential items and prepare for a mandatory evacuation should conditions necessitate it.
According to a map of the fire’s footprint posted to nocoalert.org Monday, the fire is burning in the foothills between Carter Lake Reservoir and Lyons.
