Those are two of the top 12 places to camp in Colorado, according to Hipcamp users. Hipcamp is an app that helps travelers find unique locales where they can pitch a tent, pull an RV or book a glamping accommodation. Similar to Airbnb, the app features private owners who open their properties to the public and sometimes build lodging as an attraction.
Recently, Hipcamp unveiled its annual awards, called the “best places to camp in the U.S.,” with a state-by-state breakdown of overnight destinations. The company used bookings, ratings and reviews across its platform to determine the spots that “offer some of the most incredible camping experiences in the world,” it stated.

Hipcamp’s best places to camp in Colorado
Basalt Mountain Homestead features two yurts and a tiny house, plus mountain views for days.
Located in Mack, west of Grand Junction, Bear Family Ranch is a working ranch with “cows that moo, goats that bah, (and) roosters that cock-a-doodle-do,” the listing says. Folks who tent and RV camp there are welcome to explore its 160 acres of private land that features 5 miles of biking/hiking trails.
Camp Overland in Livermore, near the Colorado-Wyoming border, welcomes campers in tents, vans, and RVs. It’s located near the Sherman Batholith, a large, 1.43-billion-year-old igneous rock mass.
Camp Penguin at WPR in Cañon City offers sites for tents, cars, vans, trucks and trailers across its 35 acres, as well as abundant access to outdoor recreation at nearby parks and public lands.
Cliffs Edge in Rockvale provides bell tents and sweeping mountain vistas. Hipcamp users say it’s a great spot to bring the kids.

A tiny home at the Lavender Farm Bed and Breakfast in Dolores is the perfect place to stay if you want to visit the nearby Mesa Verde National Park and see what a working farm with 2,500 plants is like.
Located in Moffat, Mountain Bird Alpine Desert offers campsites that accommodate tents and RVs, as well as a one-room “library school house” that’s available to book. All guests have access to flushing toilets and showers as a perk.
The Private 120-Acre Horse Sanctuary in Elizabeth, east of Castle Rock, is billed as a romantic destination where adults can glamp and even book experiences with the horses onsite.
Nestled on 5 acres in Lyons, Rocky Mountain Glamping offers several options for guests, including two “gypsy wagon” campers, tent cabins and a teardrop camper.
With 12 spots for tents and RVs, Serenity in the Foothills campground in Conifer also has additional amenities like an onsite disc golf course and trails for hiking and biking.
Shanahan Goat Ranch in Johnson Village is optimal for car campers, including RVs and rooftop tents, and offers access to BLM land and tours of the goat farm.
In Crawford, Tater’s Black Canyon Campground is ideally situated between the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park’s north rim and the North Fork Valley, a hotspot for wineries. Hipcamp also named it one of the country’s best van and overland spots for 2026.
