One person died and another was injured Saturday as a grass fire consumed several acres in northern Colorado, according to law enforcement.

Greeley police officers and firefighters responded to a “large, out-of-control grass fire” near the U.S. 85 and U.S. 34 interchange shortly before 1:40 p.m. Saturday, according to the police department.
When first responders arrived, they found flames spreading across several acres near a homeless encampment, police said.
An unidentified woman, 45, was found dead within the burn zone, according to the police department. Paramedics also took a man, 48, to a Denver-area hospital in critical condition.
The woman killed will be identified by the Weld County Coroner’s Office.
The highway interchange was shut down for several hours on Saturday for the fire, but all lanes had reopened by 5:45 p.m., according to the police department.
