Denver set a new high temperature record for Aug. 3 on Monday by pushing the thermometer to 102 degrees and toppling a high mark that had stood for 148 years.
According to the National Weather Service, the temperature at Denver International Airport on Monday afternoon registered two ticks above the previous record of 100 degrees, recorded in 1878. It was the second day in a row of triple-digit temperatures in Denver.
The typical high temperature on Aug. 3 in Denver is 89 degrees.
“It is a hot afternoon across Northeast Colorado with numerous locations reaching the low to mid 100s!” the National Weather Service posted on X.
But before raiding the ice chest at the local convenience store, know that Tuesday is forecast to peak at a good 20 degrees lower than Monday.
The weather service says to expect a high of 79 degrees Tuesday in Denver, with more wildfire smoke drifting through Colorado. Temperatures are expected to dip into the almost chilly upper 50s each of the next few nights.
But don’t pull the space heaters out of the closet just yet — temperatures are expected to climb through the 80s and 90s the rest of this week. Daytime highs will once again be flirting with 100 degrees this weekend and early next week.
