Thirsty locals looking to try the “absolute best” winery in Colorado can do so whether they are on the Front Range or the Western Slope.

That’s because Bookcliff Vineyards, which was recently named the state’s best winery by Tasting Table, boasts two locations, in Palisade and Boulder. This month, the food-focused Tasting Table published a list of the top vino makers in each of the 50 U.S. states, seeking to celebrate companies that are “redefining American wine country,” with an emphasis on those worth making a special trip to enjoy, the article says.
Established in 1996, Bookcliff Winery grows grapes on 37 acres in Palisade, and it also operates a winery in Boulder, where 14 varietals get turned into bottles of red and white. Lucky for Coloradans, both locations have tasting rooms where drinkers can swirl and sip.
One local sommelier has called the company “the most adventurous (Colorado) estate when it comes to experimenting with grape varieties.” Offerings include bold reds like Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah, as well as bright white like Viognier and Albariño, and even a couple of rosés.
“Although its beginnings trace back to an experiment with winemaking in a Boulder basement, Bookcliff Vineyards is now a premium Colorado wine country destination,” Tasting Table wrote. “The winery has also proved a consistent standout at the Colorado Governor’s Cup Wine Competition, and the location in the Colorado River Valley makes it a worthy stop for wine enthusiasts.”
