“Today has a chance to be the hottest day of the year,” weather service forecasters wrote on social media. “If you plan to be outside, stay hydrated, take breaks, and seek shade.”

Temperatures across the urban corridor and Eastern Plains are expected to reach or exceed 100 degrees, forecasters said.

In Denver, afternoon temperatures are expected to peak near 101 degrees, according to the weather service. That’s four degrees short of the city’s 105-degree heat record for July 20, set in 2005. That 105-degree heat also set a record for Denver’s hottest July temperature and tied the record for the city’s hottest temperature overall, according to the weather service.

A heat advisory issued by the weather service will be in effect for parts of Adams, Arapahoe, Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas, Jefferson, Larimer and Weld counties until 9 p.m. Monday.
