The district fired 67-year-old Brian Richie after they learned of the investigation, according to a spokesperson. The allegations are not connected to any Jeffco students, the district said.

Richie is facing one count of sexual assault on a child — position of trust and pattern of abuse; one count of sexual exploitation of a child — produces; 12 counts of sexual exploitation of a child — video; 16 counts of sexual exploitation of a child — photo; one count of invasion of privacy for sexual gratification — person under 15; and one count of misdemeanor invasion of privacy for sexual gratification, according to an arrest affidavit.

The girl reported the abuse to Blue Sky Bridge staff after the Boulder-based group gave a presentation to Longmont students about online safety and safe and unsafe touching in January.

The girl told the staff that whenever she went to Richie’s home, he would rest his hand underneath her clothes on her bottom, according to the affidavit. The girl said she would frequently go to Richie’s home while her parents were attending workout classes, and that the touching had been going on “longer than she could remember.” She also said Richie had a video on his phone of her while she was naked.

When police spoke to Richie at his home, he denied that he had taken photos of the girl or touched her sexually. After police informed him that they had a search warrant for his phone, he admitted he had photos of the girl naked. He told officers the photos were not sexual, but “intimate,” and said he should have deleted them.

Police found 16 sexually explicit images and 12 explicit videos of the girl on Richie’s phone, with dates ranging from 2018 to 2025. Some of the photos and videos were taken using a camera Richie had hidden in his bedroom. The camera had also recorded videos of Richie’s wife. Neither the girl nor the man’s wife was aware the camera worked.

Richie worked for the Jeffco school district for many years, working as a bus driver from July 2006 until February 2015. He also worked in facilities management during that time. From April 2015 until March 2024, he worked in patrol operations. In September 2025, the district rehired Richie as an “external consultant,” where he continued to work in patrol until he was fired in March. Richie passed background checks when he was hired, the Jeffco spokesperson said.

Richie is in custody at the Boulder County Jail on a $250,000 cash or surety bail, according to court records. He is set to appear for a filing of charges at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the jail.
